On February 29, twenty eight junior tennis players gathered in Quairading to battle it out in the annual Central Districts Zone Championship singles.
The weather was surprisingly kind after a week of severe electrical storms and the children were keen to see who would claim bragging rights in the zone.
Over the day, 54 singles matches were played across four different age groups and there was representation from most clubs within the zone.
The results were as follows:
- 10 years and under boys: Champion Liam Leeson from Meckering, runner up Jordan Billing from Merredin
- 12 years and under boys: Champion Charlie Atkinson from Merredin, runner up Archie Gethin from Merredin
- 12 years and under girls: Champion Kayla Wilmott from Northam, runner up Jonti Leeson from Meckering
- 14 years and under boys: Champion Lachie Wilmott from Northam, runner up Thomas Leeson from Meckering
- 14 years and under girls: Champion Lauren Nightingale from Wyalkatchem, runner up Lily Leeson from Meckering
- 16 years and under boys: Champion Mitchell Ashworth from Beverley, runner up Dylan Snooke from Meckering
Thank you to Quairading Tennis Club who hosted the tournament.
