Unseasonably wet weather hampered Round 2 of the Northam Tavern Twenty20 Cup causing some delays and rescheduling.
By the end of the weekend, two of the rounds fixtures were completed as well as the first round of the Women's League.
Game of the round
Toodyay visited Bakers Hill Oval to take on Bakers Hill Green. After they lost the toss, Toodyay were asked to bat first and lost an early wicket.
This brought Aron Waters to the crease. He righted the innings with a typically swashbuckling top score of 28, before he was out, bowled by Colin MacTaggart.
Dylan Borrett added 24 to the total before he retired unbeaten as Toodyay looked to give everyone an opportunity.
At the end of their 20 overs, the total was a competitive 103 for the loss of four wickets, although 10 batters in all saw action.
MacTaggart (2 wickets for 17 runs from 3 overs) had the best of the bowling figures for Bakers Green.
In reply, Bakers Green made steady progress in the run chase, as their opening stand put on 21.
When their second wicket fell with the total on 35, Matt Jankauskas arrived in the middle.
Although he has been in excellent recent form with the ball, he couldn't buy a run during the 40 over season.
That changed as he top scored on the day with 37 and lifted Bakers Green to victory.
They finished on 4 for 112 after their 20 overs, using 9 batsmen.
Ryan Reid (2 for 4 from 3) was the pick of the Toodyay bowlers while Aron Waters (2 for 25 from 2) was more expensive.
In the other game, Bakers Hill Gold won the toss and sent Grass Valley in to bat at Jubilee Oval in Northam.
Valley took advantage as their opening pair put on 68 for the first wicket, before Rhys Byfield was dismissed for 40, caught by Matt Turner from the bowling of Brent Williams.
Kitt Byfield went on with it, retiring unbeaten on 53 at the end of the over he reached his half century.
This platform allowed Valley to reach 4 for 139 from their 20 overs.
Williams (3 for 21 from 3) was best with the ball for Bakers Gold, but was out cheaply when opening the batting.
With his side in early trouble, Matt Turner continued his recent form, top scoring with 46 before he was dismissed with the total at 3 for 65.
No other Bakers Gold batsman got going as they were bowled out in the 18th over with the score on 85.
Zeke Kennedy picked up two late wickets to lead Valley with 2 for 5 from 2 overs while Kane O'Driscoll grabbed the key wicket of Turner on his way to 2 for 11 from 2 overs.
Also over the weekend, it was exciting to see the first of three rounds of the Perth Scorchers Women's League held locally.
The opening round saw ladies representing Toodyay and Bakers Hill clash at Bakers Hill Oval.
The competition features modified games and it is an opportunity for women and girls aged 11 and over to play cricket. Fun for everyone.
The Northam Tavern Twenty20 Cup breaks for the upcoming long weekend with a competition bye before resuming on Saturday, March 7.
Toodyay travel to Bakers Hill once again, this time to take on Bakers Hill Gold.
While two games feature at Bert Hawke in Northam, Balladong play Bakers Green on Number 1 and Grass Valley meet Ferals on Number 2.
All games start at 3pm in the afternoon and the action is fast and frantic.
