A Northam teenager who is no stranger to representing Australia on the world stage is preparing to head overseas again, this time for the Women's Under 19 World Floorball Championship in Sweden.
At just 16 years of age, Mackenzie Sargeant has already traveled around Asia and Europe to play a sport that is rarely played in WA, with the exception of Northam and Perth.
Only two months ago, the Northam Senior High School student was in Switzerland competing in the women's division of the championships.
Mackenzie said she was proud of her efforts in Switzerland, playing as the second youngest competitor in the tournament.
"I kind of feel like I've become used to representing Australia at the championships and I still have 20 to 30 years left in me to play professionally," she said.
"I think I played really well - I could have scored three goals but I missed them over nets.
"I thought I attacked the net well and played up forward well.
"The commentators mentioned my speed quite a lot in our game against the USA, which made me feel like I deserved my spot on the team."
Out of the 16 teams in the five-day event, the Australian women's side placed eleventh, a position that Mackenzie said reflected their experience.
"The European teams are a lot more experienced than us because the sport is a lot bigger over there," she said.
"We versed USA first and we thought it was going to be a tough game - which it was.
"We ended up winning five goals to four - we were pretty stoked because we knew it would be tough.
"Going into it we thought all the other games were going to be easier than the USA game."
She said they were mistaken, facing a campaign of tough matches.
Australia defeated Thailand 4 - 1 in their second match and narrowly lost to Singapore in their final pool game 4 - 3.
The side were defeated by Poland 10 - 3 and lost to Norway 2 - 7 which led them to play against Singapore again for their final match.
Despite losing to Singapore in an earlier game, the Australian team won 3 -1 securing eleventh position.
Sweden took out the entire tournament followed by Sweden in second and Finland third.
Mackenzie will go on to play in the 2020 Under 19 World Floorball championships in Sweden in April.
Preparations are well underway with a personal trainer and training down in Perth twice a week.
She said she plans to continue to pursue floorball while finishing her final two years of school.
