Wheatbelt residents wanting to diversify their job skills and training will have opportunities to expand their knowledge as part of grants awarded to local Community Resource Centres (CRCs) and local governments.
The grants of up to $30,000 have been awarded to 34 different CRCs and local governments across the agricultural region through the Regional Traineeship Program.
Local MP Darren West said the Regional Traineeship Program supported CRCs and LGAs to provide local training, skills and employment opportunities.
"This program provides training opportunities that encourage people to stay and work in their local community," he said.
"It is flexible, enabling traineeships in vocations that better suit the needs of our regional communities."
Cunderdin, Goomalling, Kellerberrin, Narembeen, Wongan Hills, York and Toodyay CRCs have been awarded funds for traineeships in business, events, rural operations and accounts.
CRC peak body Linkwest chief executive Jane Chilcott the traineeship program had supported over 500 trainees since 2010.
"It has been an important capacity builder for small regional communities," she said.
"It has helped people to gain qualifications and skills and, in many cases, find local employment.
"For organisations like CRCs which provide essential services to regional communities, the program is also an important part of succession planning.
"It represents a vital investment in the people and places that, in regional WA, provide opportunities, offer services, and create communities."
