Northam Harness Racing Club and Community TAB will team up to fundraise for the Northam Agricultural Society at the annual dual code harness and greyhound meeting on Sunday, October 13.
"The Community TAB program is extremely worthwhile, it gives us the opportunity to share with the public the TAB's commitment to our community, as well as being very much appreciated contribution to our community organisations," Northam Harness Racing Club chief executive officer Verna Freind said.
"On our major race day, the annual combined trot/greyhound day we run approximately 17 races between the two codes, entry is free and we provide free entertainment for adults and children. The Northam Agricultural Society promotes farming, country industries, children's sport and school activities, and because of their commitment to the community and their willingness to support our dual code day we offer them this fundraising opportunity," she said.
Funds will be raised on the day through the Paddy's Market Stall, the sale of hay and produce, sausage sizzles, and raffles. Community TAB, a program of Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA), will be matching the funds raised up to $2,000.
RWWA chairman Jeff Ovens said the positive effects of the Community TAB program have been extensive for regional Western Australia with 49 of WA's race clubs based in regional communities.
"Community TAB is proud to play our own part in giving back to the community by partnering with race clubs around WA. The Community TAB dollar matching program has been in effect from early 2015, and since then has seen over $500,000 raised for not-for-profit organisations around WA through partnerships with local race clubs," Mr Ovens said.
"RWWA recognises that race clubs across WA play an important role in their community...Our donation to the Northam Agricultural Society via Community TAB is just one of more than 50 community organisations that will be supported as part of RWWA's ongoing commitment to the WA community."
Any race club that takes part in the Community TAB Race Club Community program in 2019 will also go into the running to receive a $4,000 grant from Community TAB to support their club.
