A Wheatbelt mother with a passion for performing will be debuting her one-woman comedy stage show based on her life at the upcoming York Festival.
Alli Butler, who calls Bruce Rock home, started her career as a nurse but always had a passion for performing.
"I started my working career as a nurse but when I was little I always wanted to be an actor - I didn't think that could be my reality," she said.
"After doing nursing for a few years I started acting classes at night and at 27 was accepted into an acting school in Sydney.
"I was in Sydney for 13 years just doing a bit of acting and singing, I got a nursing job at the Sydney Opera House and got married and had a kid."
Ms Butler said her show, featured as part of the York Festival line-up, is inspired by her move back to the Wheatbelt.
"The 40 Year Old Pop Star tells the story of a mum who leaves her job as the Sydney Opera House nurse, where she attends to international superstars who have headaches, and returns to the tiny country town where she was born, to pursue her pop career," she said.
"Once arrived in this Wheatbelt town, which is more or less in the middle of nowhere, she acquires a few headaches of her own: like where is an audience that is not comprised of cows?
"It is the idea of if you want to do something go out there and do it.
"If something interests you or you have a passion just think outside of the box.
"I recorded three of my songs last year with a producer in Brisbane and a lot of people told me not to tell people how old I was and to Photoshop images of myself to make me look younger.
"Why is there this thing that when you hit a certain age you are no longer relevant?
"Part of the message is about creating my own world of what I do regardless of what the constraints of what society say."
The York Festival runs from September 28 to October 13 and includes art exhibitions, live music and street art.
The singer-songwriter and comedian said the event was something to celebrate.
"Events like the York Festival bring people together and that's something I have really noticed moving back to the country," she said.
"It is easier to get involved here - you know your neighbours.
"Everyone pitches in together and that helps build relationships."
The 40 Year Old Pop Star will be showing at the York Palace Hotel on Saturday, October 5 from 7pm.
