One of Australia's top diplomats visited Northam last week as part of a trip to promote regional WA, particularly agriculture, to the Asian market.
Australia's Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City Julienne Cowley visited the Muresk Institute and Northam Senior High School to engage first-hand with regional communities and businesses to learn and listen to local perspectives on trade and development policy, in conjunction with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Department of Training and Workforce Development director general Anne Driscoll said the Muresk visit was an excellent opportunity to showcase the state's premier skills hub for modern agriculture.
"Muresk is at the forefront of WA's agricultural scene, working closely with partners to bring cutting-edge technology to regional Australia," she said.
The visit included a campus and farm tour with exposure to the ground breaking SmartFarm technology, in operation at Muresk since 2018.
Ms Driscoll said the Muresk Institute was the perfect setting to study short-or-long term agricultural courses, with a number of accommodation options and meal packages.
"With Western Australia's clean environment and first-rate agricultural industry we have a lot to offer the Asian market with innovative partnerships and research opportunities at Muresk," she said.
As part of her visit Ms Cowley also met with business owners and members of the Northam Chamber of Commerce and students from Northam Senior High School.
During her visit with the Year 11 history and business management students, Ms Cowley discussed development opportunities, the importance of international trade, and listening to local perspectives.
