A group of passionate writers in the Avon region are on a mission to bring a creative writing event back on the calendar, after previous events fell by the wayside.
Avon Valley Writers, a group who meet each Wednesday at the Northam Library, are hosting the Northam Fringe Writers and Friends Fest in the town this weekend.
Event host Brett Inglis said the re-birth of the event had been fueled by passionate club members.
"There used to be a writing festival with Toodyay, Northam and York over one weekend but for one reason or another that doesn't exist anymore," he said.
"For the past two years there hasn't been an event focusing on writing.
"From this I decided to organise a writing festival, which is inclusive of the Avon Valley Wargaming Association and Zumba - it's an entertainment day.
"We wanted to put something together that isn't just sitting around.
"We want people to get actively involved and learn new skills - I believe that everyone has a story to tell."
The slam poet said he wanted to see the event gain momentum and become a yearly occurrence.
Workshops on Saturday, September 21 at the Northam Workers Club include fantasy writing, slam poetry, creative non-fiction, how to repair your books, wargaming and zumba.
Tickets are $30 from the Book Shed, with funds raised going to the Red Nose Appeal.
