In the late 1990s Wyalktachem District High School decided to reduce their factions to two and so began the selection process to find new names for these factions.
Charlie Sandstone and Reverend Keith Wheeler were recognised as great sportsmen that had lived in Wyalkatchem.
Keith was our Anglican Church Minister from 1977-1983 so our gold faction became Sandstone and our green faction became Wheeler.
Last week we were thrilled to have Rev Keith Wheeler visit our school.
Keith represented Australia at the 1962 and 1966 Commonwealth Games and at the 1969 Pacific Conference Games.
At both Commonwealth Games he competed in the 880 yard runs and also in the one mile event at the 1966 games.
At the Pacific Games he competed in the 800 metres.
Keith spoke to our students about the need to practice and practice, quoting Greg Norman in saying 'the more I practice the luckier I get'.
He also encouraged students to always have a go and not to worry if they weren't immediately good at things.
At 76 Keith still runs regularly.
We presented Keith with his very own "Wheeler" faction shirt.
