Last Saturday was another gold leaf event at the Northam Golf Club, the Gillette Putter and Veteran's Trophy.
Originally the Veterans Trophy was introduced to give the small number of senior players over 60 a chance at winning a trophy on the day, however with the changing demographics at the club most of the players present on Saturday qualified for both the Gillette Putter and the Veterans trophy.
Northam Sportspower sponsored the Gillette Trophy and Steve's Hair Care sponsored the Veterans Trophy.
Despite a Sportstore and hairdresser as sponsors the event was open to all golfers, from sinewy to flabby , hirsute to follically challenged.
Following on from the previous week's ambrose win, captain Bob Allert showed the sceptics that he was capable of stringing two weeks of good form together, taking out the Gillette Putter for 2019 with a score of 90 off-the-stick, a nett 70.
Runner-up was Phil Becker with a nett 72 beating the unlucky Chadd Hunt on a countback.
Veteran Trophy winner was the hot favourite Ron Pitts chalking up another victory this year with a great score of 90 off-the-stick, nett 73. Pitts again playing to his age (90). Pitts's form may mean that a Super Veterans trophy for over 89-year-olds will be introduced next year to give those players over 60 a chance at winning the veteran's category.
