The Shire of York has announced the resignation of chief executive Paul Martin.
Mr Martin will replace Kenn Donohoe as the chief executive of Serptentine Jarahdale, who has accepted a role with Whitsunday Regional Council after two years with the Peel local government.
Mr Martin is currently the chief executive at the Shire of York and has previously held management roles at the Town of Port Hedland and the Shire of Broome.
Shire of York president David Wallace thanked Mr Martin for his contribution to the region, citing him as a catalyst for change in the local government.
"Paul has worked hard for York, resolving long standing legacy issues and laying the foundations for our future success," Mr Wallace said.
"His efforts implementing change in a challenging environment are highly commendable.
"The Shire now has an effective organisational structure and the community is enjoying better engagement and increased confidence in the governance of the Shire.
"Funding has been secured for major projects and we have the structure and people needed to deliver them.
"We have seen visitor numbers more than double in the last three years and we are attracting major events to York and regaining our reputation of being a festival town.
"We are confident that York is in a good position moving forward and we have Paul to thank for that."
Mr Martin said he valued his time working in York.
"I have very much enjoyed my time at the Shire of York and I have appreciated the support and commitment of the staff and community to the improvements we have collectively made at the Shire for the benefit of York," he said.
Mr Martin will work with council to implement its direction to appoint an acting chief executive and a process to recruit a new chief executive.
Mr Martin's final day with the Shire of York is Friday, September 13.
