I'm in the main street of York almost everyday playing guitar. I have been here for about four years before that I was in Fremantle. I moved here because it was the cheapest place to buy a house. It's in the bush but also close to the city plus another few things going for it.I have been down in the city playing gypsy music - I do a lot of gigs in the city - in restaurants and café and also in all sorts of places.
I have a kid who lives in Mt Helena. He likes to play bass and is self-taught by the internet - like a lot of kids these days. I have a sister who just came back from the lands. She is a teacher out in the desert - she loves it out there. She flies in and out. She recently tried kangaroo tail.
I got a job in the building trade at about 19 and worked for eight years to make some money - then I have been playing guitar and bass even since.
All my friends are dead from alcohol and age - that's pretty sad but that's okay. I am not very interesting at all.
My advice would be more confident. As you get old you loose your pretenses and stop caring about what other people are thinking. I grow up with my granny and they had all these rules and ways of doing things it was a psychological nightmare.
I'm not young and handsome anymore. I used to write my songs and now I am always improvising which is pretty much the same thing.
My favorite artist is Django Reinhardt - he was a 1930s swing player - was a Belgian-born Romani-French jazz guitarist - no one has ever been better than him. They used to really live the music in those days. The technique was amazing. I play tango and jazz. I play guitar in one and double bass in another.
I have a dog - it is a love and hate relationship. She doesn't play well with other dogs - she likes people. Her idea with playing with another is different. She is a bit rough.
