Federals' League and Reserve teams defeat Cunderdin Magpies to continue winning streak

The road trip to Cunderdin for Round 9 to tackle the Magpies would be a test for both Federals sides to see how they perform in windy winter conditions.

If Federals League side dropped a game at this stage of the season teams would be breathing down their necks ready to take their spot in second place on the premiership ladder.

The Federals Reserves side with a clean slate of seven wins from seven outings would also be tested as they started the first term kicking with the aid of a tricky crosswind; and with Cunderdin full of fight, scoring opportunities were at a minimum as both sides struggled in the conditions.

Federals ending the term with a 12-point lead - 2 goals, 2 points to Cunderdin 2 points.

The second term saw Federals start to control the play with superior leg speed creating numerous scoring chances adding 4 goals, 3 points, while Cunderdin could only manage a further two points going into the half-time break 37 points in arrears.

Federals 6.5 (41) to Cunderdin 0.4 (4).

The second half unfortunately for Cunderdin was all one way traffic as Federals went on a scoring spree adding 12 goals, 7 points to the Magpies' solitary goal in the last term.

Final scores: Federals 18.12 (120) to Cunderdin 1.4 (10) - a winning margin of 112 points.

The League encounter had Federals kicking against the crosswind and play was evenly contested as all players would take time to adjust to the conditions.

As the term ended Federals' back six had done an excellent job with Cunderdin Magpies only holding a slim four-point lead.

The second term as with the Reserves saw Federals find their feet and with superior skill sent the ball forward kicking 5.1 while restricting Cunderdin to a point to have a half-time lead of 26.

After the half-time break and a positive rev up by coach Alistair Smith, Federals came out and added a further 5 goals, 3 points, while Cunderdin with goal-front inaccuracy could only manage to kick 1 goal, 4 points, increasing Federals' lead to 48 going into the last term.

The final quarter saw Federals continue to outscore their rivals adding to their already mounting lead to eventually run out comfortable winners by 63 points.

Final scores: Federals 15.10 (100) to Cunderdin 5.7 (37).
