Saturday, April 13 was the second successful fly in and get together at Northam Airfield organised and hosted by Kim and Lyn Lawrence, Barbara and Greg McFarlane on behalf of the Sport Aircraft Association of Australia.
Our invitation was to all aviators - if it flies it's welcome.
We had a fantastic attendance of aviators who enjoyed camaraderie, exchanged stories and admired each other's aircraft.
Some who planned to attend cancelled at the last minute as the weather forecast was predicting rain but we had great weather on the day.
We were very lucky and still had forty aircraft land on the field.
We couldn't have been happier with the turn out and support.
The aircraft kept arriving and it was so exciting not knowing what type of plane was about to land.
Then we all had a huge thrill watching a formation of six planes arrive from Chapter 24 Jandakot.
There were over eighty people in attendance enjoying a BBQ lunch, not counting ourselves and our helpers.
Our major sponsor, Western Airmotive, donated prizes as did Kim and Lyn, Greg and Barbara and Steve and Jenny Kox.
Geoff Daines from SAAA gave the crowd a rundown of current happenings at headquarters including information regarding medicals, flight transition and training programmes and initiatives to increase membership.
The usual Chapter Challenge for the chapter with the most aircraft on the field went to Chapter 24, Jandakot with sixteen planes.
The Popular Choice Aircraft went to Shane Black from Northam with his Pitt's Special.
The trophy for longest distance flown went to Rod Moir who flew from Myrup, Esperance.
Annette Hill won the door prize from the Easter Bonnet, and got to keep and wear the bonnet.
We are very grateful to all our helpers including Malcolm and Rachel who did a great job of Registrations and kept record of who our aviators were and where they were all from.
Steve and Jenny Kox who donated prizes and helped Kim with the cooking, and lunch service.
A big thank you to all our aviator friends who flew in to enjoy the day, and without whom there wouldn't be a fly in.
