A recent addition to the Northam streetscape has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Australian Interior Design Awards.
The Bilya Koort Boodja Centre for Nyoongar Culture and Environmental Knowledge is one of thirteen shortlisted sites in the Installation Design category of the 2019 Awards Gallery.
Shire of Northam chief executive officer Jason Whiteaker said the nomination is rightly deserved.
"It is pleasing that the BKB is being recognized for its design and certainly all the feedback we are receiving has been extremely positive about the content and quality," Mr Whiteaker said.
"Our main focus at the moment is on promoting the centre and getting more visitors through the door to experience and celebrate our local Nyoongar culture.
"We have a group of tour bus companies in town this week looking at the centre with the view of trying to attract them to the centre as regular tours.
"In addition to this the centre is open seven days a week, so we would encourage locals to come down and have a look, particularly when you have friends and family visiting Northam.
"Great way to spend a Sunday morning."
The 2019 Australian Interior Design Awards gala banquet will be held at the Forum Melbourne on May 31.
The awards recognise and celebrate interior design excellence.
The interior for Bilya Koort Boodja was created by Thylacine Design.
