The introduction of plant pots along Gordon Place is the starting stages of a bigger face lift for the street, according to the Shire of Northam.
The pots were introduced to the street three weeks ago as part of the Shire of Northam's Town Centre Development and Connectivity Strategy, which will see the installation of lighting and seating to the area.
Executive manager engineering services Clinton Kleynhans said the project is considered a 'quick win'.
"The idea is bright-scaping, linking the town and providing focal hubs for people to gather near the river," he said.
"We want to bring people together and utilise areas more.
"Minson Avenue is definitely one area we want to brightscape and develop more.
"There's a number of pubs being built there.
"They'll provide connectivity along the foreshore. It's not as utilised as it could be."
The redevelopment includes installing cobblestones along Gordon Place, the installation of a steel structure feature between Laura's Wine Bar and the footpath, the installation of suspended mood lighting, planter boxes and seating.
Mr Kleynhans said the Shire has been working with Laura's Wine Bar owner Brian Klopper to develop the concept.
"Come evening time we've made arrangements with Brian to pull the bollards up; he road will close and he will spill out onto that area," he said.
"There will potentially be tables and dining to expand on to his area.
"He has plans to do some dance lessons there.
"We're working to expand on the contemporary feeling there.
"There's a lot of potential for Gordon Place."
Mr Kleynhans said the project will be completed by the end of the financial year with the final plans currently in progress.
This financial year. We are just in the final stages of getting the plans together. You should see some action there in the coming weeks.
