Although holding bi-annual Relay for Life events, the Northam committee is keeping themselves busy ready to host a mini relay to encourage registrations for the 2020 event.
In collaboration with the Northam Lion’s Club, the Relay for Life committee will be holding a small scale version of the 24 hour event.
Kicking off at 8am on Saturday, March 2 the relay will take place around the swan enclosure at Bernard Park followed by a midday madness event including a colour run.
Committee member Ashlea Owczarski-Moss the event is a snapshot of the bi-annual event.
“Because we hold our relay bi-annually the Cancer Council asked, to keep the momentum going if we would do some sort of event to boost registration numbers,” she said.
“It’s up to the committee how they want to do it.
“My husband Sam came up with the idea of a mini-relay.
“In discussion with the Lions Club, who are big supporters of ours, we decided to go ahead with it.”
Ms Owczarski-Moss said she encourages those who are curious about what Relay for Life is all about to join in.
The committee won the group category of the Community Citizen of the Year awards on Australia Day, which to date have raised more than $50,000 for the Cancer Council since 2012.
Made up of six committee members, Ms Owczarski-Moss said she is proud of the team’s achievements.
“We are the smallest committee in the state but it doesn’t stop us.”
