SunSmart Busselton Half Marathon and Fun Run attracts athletic superstars

Runners from throughout the state descended on the city this weekend for the SunSmart Busselton Half Marathon and Fun Run.

Hosted by the Busselton Runners Club, the event sold-out a month prior.

More than 1300 athletes took part in the event.

In the 21 kilometre Half Marathon, Dean Menzies took the honours with the incredible time of just 1:07.51.

Francisco Javier Sanzana Diaz was next across the line with a time of 1:08.22, followed by Zac Jepsm who clocked 1:10.13.

In ninth place overall, Rochelle Rodgers was the first female to complete the mega course. She recorded a time of 1:15.48.

In the 10 kilometre race, Nick Harman, who hopes to represent Australia in the World Half Marathon Champions and ultimately the Olympic Games in the Marathon, blitzed the field.

Harman eased over the finish line with an astonishing time of 29:36.4.

He was followed by Daniel Barnes (34:26.3) and Max Lanoelle (34:36.7).

Coming in sixth, Nera Jareb claimed victory in the female open division with a time of 36:54.0.

Madison Toovey was the next across the line, taking out first place in the under 18 division, with a time of 37:22.4.

In the 5 kilometre, Luke Burrows sped to victory in a time of 16:08.4.

Adam White in second place at 16:49.4 claimed under 18 honours, while Finnian Emmett was third overall.

For the females, it was the young guns in the 5km that took the honours.

India Hooton, sixth overall, was first female across the line, taking the title of Under 18 champ with 19:07.9.

Fellow Under 18 racers, Makayla Chapple (tenth overall) and Isabella Bidesi (twelfth overall) rounded out the top placings for the females with times of 20:26.3 and 20:36.0 respectively.

For Dunsborough’s Isabella Bidesi, 11, the result rounds out a great few months of results.

Isabella recently returned from a hugely successful showing at the Little Athletics State Championships.
