Northam’s newest office space, Create 298, is officially open for business.
The co-work space is the result of a three year collaboration between the Shire of Northam, local business owners and the Chamber of Commerce.
Located at 298 Fitzgerald Street, above the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the space was created for individuals and organisations who need a working environment.
Those using Create 298 have access to wi-fi, a tea room and a selection of desk configurations and office spaces.
Shire of Northam chief executive Jason Whiteaker said the proposal for the co-work space was the suggestion of local business owner Anna Dixon.
In 2016, alongside her now-workmate Rhiannon Bristow-Stagg, Ms Dixon launched a trail co-work space to gauge the level of interest for the working arrangement.
The trial allowed customers to experience co-working and have the ability to ask questions rather than just being explained the concept.
The feedback from the trail was passed on to the Shire of Northam who helped further develop the idea, resulting in Create 298.
Mr Whiteaker said he was confident that the space will be maximised to its full potential.
“We wanted to try some things in the Shire to activate the CBD,” he said at the opening of the facility.
“It is obvious that there was enthusiasm for the idea.
“We are trying to support the Chamber of Commerce and keep as many people in the CBD as possible.
“We are really excited about Northam and what is happening here.”
Create 298 is open for use from 8am to 6pm with the opportunity for flexibility in times with the use of swipe card access.
The main work space can cater for up to 12 users at a time with additional office spaces and meeting rooms also available for booking.
Prices start at $15 for a half day pass and $30 for a day pass.
The Shire will charge $80 per month for one day a week and $240 a month for a shared desk three days a week.
Meeting rooms will also be available for $125 for half a day and $200 for a day.
As part of the management of the facility, the Shire’s community development team have transitioned from Shire offices to the building.
