Toodyay Bowling Club were successful in their November 2018 application to the Commonwealth Government to fund a replacement surface to their green.
As recently announced by local State Member Shane Love and Federal Member Christian Porter, a substantial grant was awarded.
Bowling club president Gordon Scott said members and visitors can look forward to a high quality bowling experience when the work is complete.
“The membership is over the moon with the result of the grant; we had knock-backs from other sources of funding but with this Community Sport Infrastructure grant of $130,000 from Sport Australia, the all-important playing surface can be paid for,” he said.
“The Shire of Toodyay have been very generous in their offer of in-kind support, and related works on the paving and lighting will occur in due course, when other funding is secured.
“Our bowling club hosts Ladies’ and Men’s Pennant fixtures, Corporate and Social Bowls, and we have been offering lawn bowls “lessons” to students from Toodyay District High School, which we’ll continue in 2019.
“The Bowling Club is one of the most active community clubs in the Shire, and with a tip-top surface we anticipate more locals playing and enjoying our sport, plus a reputational gain from within the sport, when other clubs visit to play.
“This can only be good for Toodyay.”
The membership selected their preferred supplier at a special meeting on January 13, and expects the work on the playing surface to take two weeks, commencing after the current season is complete and before July 2019.
