The family of a Northam man who has been missing since Sunday morning has appealed to the wider Wheatbelt community to look out for the beloved grandfather.
67-year-old John Irvine was last seen at a roadhouse in Quairading around 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
He is believed to be driving a brand new blue Toyota Corolla hatchback with licence plate 1GPE156.
His daughter Kaylaa Irvine said it was out of character for the dementia patient to be out of contact with family for a long amount of time.
“He doesn’t normally disappear,” she said.
“He can get lost coming home from the shops sometimes, but not like this.”
Ms Irvine appealed for anyone who sees Mr Irvine to go up to him and ask him if he is okay.
Northam Police officer in charge Senior Sergeant David Hornsby said while at the roadhouse in Quairading Mr Irvine asked for directions back to Northam and was seen travelling towards Beverley.
Sergeant Hornsby said police resources are on the roads looking out for the missing man and his vehicle.
“We are flooding the main roads,” he said.
“Conditions aren’t severe but it is a concern if he has moved away from his car.
“That increases the risk for him.”
Sergeant Hornsby said police have not ruled out the possibility that Mr Irvine may have travelled futher out into the Wheatbelt.
“We have made contact with South Australia and told them about the situation,” he said.
“Mr Irvine also has previous ties with Victoria.
“The longer it goes on, the longer the area becomes.
“This is turning into a big operation.”
Mr Irvine is described as fair skinned with a slim build, approximately 165cms tall, with white hair, green eyes and speaks with a strong Scottish accent.
Mr Irvine may have been wearing either dark drill pants, a polo shirt and joggers or black tracksuit pants and a blue/black t-shirt.
Anyone who sees Mr Irvine is asked to contact police on 131 444.
