A bushfire watch and act has been issued for people in the townsite of Spencers Brook and surrounding areas in the Shire of Northam.
The fire was reported at 11.38am in the north of the townsite.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the bushfire is moving fast in a southerly direction and is currently out of control and unpredictable.
It is safe to leave south on Spencers Brook Road towards York.
Firefighters from Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services and Bush Fire Services are on the scene.
Aerial support has been sent to assist ground crews and the Shire of Northam are in attendance.
DFES said there is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area.
They said need to leave or get ready to actively defend.
