I’m a Koori man born in Queensland and raised in New South Wales. I was the youngest of six children. There was 30 years between my mum and my dad and he was one of 19 boys.
My dad died when I was 2 years old and I was raised by my mum. She used to go up and down creeks with us, go on bush walks. Although we didn’t have much money she used to say ‘there is always someone worse off that you’. This drive me into working to help people.
I came to Western Australia in 1999 for a 2 week holiday - I never left. I met the love of my life moved to Toodyay. We started the fruit and veg shop but lost everything in the Toodyay fires in 2009. I have lived alone in Northam since 2011.
I have a great friend. We go for drives together. We talk. I call it ‘car pool therapy’. We get things off our chest.
My advice is to first love yourself with humility not ego.
