St John will officially open its new ambulance sub centre at Dowerin on Sunday marking the final milestone in the project.
Dowerin Sub Centre committee president Denise Sutherland said they had identified a need for a new, purpose built facility that would accommodate the growing needs of the ambulance service and its volunteers.
The previous sub centre had been operating at a facility at 23 East Street, where it had been operating since 1971.
“The new building has a designated administration office and first aid training area and provides facilities previously not available such as kitchen facilities, showers and storage areas,” Ms Sutherland said.
“Having a large, dedicated first aid training area will help in our purpose to increase the proportion of the population trained in first aid, improving community resilience.
“The facilities will improve operational efficiency and will help with volunteer retention.
“The new sub centre is in a more central location making it more efficient and convenient for attending sporting events, the local school and events like the Dowerin Field Day.
“We’d like to acknowledge all the hard work of people from the surrounding sub centres who helped to provide crowd funding for this project.”
