Celebrations of all things agriculture are taking place across Australia as part of National Agriculture Day on Wednesday, November 21.
The Cunderdin region will be hosting an Ag Day event at Grainking’s manufacturing site to celebrate the day.
Leader of The Nationals WA and Member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies who will be attending the event said the day is important as the WA agri-food sector represents about 10 percent of the State’s economy and employs thousands of people.
“It continues to be the lifeblood of many rural and regional communities, especially those the Wheatbelt and throughout my electorate,” Ms Davies said.
“Locally-owned and operated businesses such a Grainking provide training and employment opportunities, drive innovation, support not-for-profits and invest in their communities.
“Recognising contributions these businesses make is an important part of helping grow recognition and understanding of the agriculture industry more widely.”
Grainking chief executive Colin Jorgensen said the company aims to lead the way to reduce compaction of soil and emissions.
“Our recent upgrade to the Harvest Flotation lug tyres as standard has proven a very popular decision for the farmer,” he said.
“Our mission is to help the farmers remain cost competitive through productivity and efficiency gains.
“We have unique conditions in Australia and leveraging local innovation is the future.”
National Agriculture Day comes on the back of research, which found that 83 percent of Australians would describe their connection with farming as ‘distant’ or ‘non-existent’.
National Farmers’ Federation president Fiona Simson said not often enough does the public reflect on all the good agriculture does for Australia and the world over and above its monetary value.
