To commemorate World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims last Sunday, the WALGA RoadWise annual Road Ribbon for Road Safety campaign was launched.
Towards Zero, Western Australia’s road safety strategy 2008-2020, has a long-term aspiration of a road transport system where crashes resulting in death or serious injury are virtually eliminated.
Everyone can contribute to this campaign by acknowledging that road trauma is preventable and wearing a road ribbon between now and January 2018. The ribbons are available at the Shire of Northam administration offices, the Northam Recreation Centre, visitors centre and Bilya Koort Boodja cultural centre.
This year’s theme is ‘Roads have Stories’ which is linked to the second pillar of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.
“Roads and streets are more than connections from point A to point B. They tell stories, some of them tragic, that are worth remembering.”
