A Geraldton fly-in fly-out worker has pleaded guilty to driving more than 60km/h over the speed limit during a Sunday morning joy ride.
Phillip Trent McConnell pleaded guilty to reckless driving when he appeared at Northam Magistrates Court on Monday, November 19.
On August 19, McConnell was captured by a speed camera riding his Suzuki motorbike at 166km/h on a 100km/h stretch of Toodyay Road in Morangup, the court heard.
Lawyer Jack Trainor said his client was on his way to meet friends for a motorcycle ride.
He told the court that because it was 9am on a Sunday morning there was little to no traffic and his client believed that he could only have done harm to himself if something went wrong.
Magistrate Jennifer Hawkins said if something untoward happened, McConnell would have had no hope.
McConnell was fined $1400 with costs and had his drivers licence disqualified for six months concurrently.
