WA College of Agriculture - Cunderdin students and their families celebrated an outstanding year of achievements at the College Valedictory Ceremony on Friday November 9.
College students excelled at shows and events throughout the year, consolidating the skills taught in the classroom and across the trade and training areas of the College.
Wongan Hills student Emily Hourigan was awarded the Dux for 2018 with James Thomas from Narembeen taking out the Runner Up Dux. James was also awarded the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Dux award.
Principal Sally Panizza praised students and staff for their efforts throughout the year.
“Our 61 graduating students have achieved 281 VET qualifications between them, which I believe is a new record for the College,” Mrs Panizza said.
“Personal traits such as a strong work ethic, ability to work in a team, awareness of safe work practices and the independence gained while living away from home have all been developed under the careful watch of College staff and will stand our students in good stead as they enter the work force or go on to further study.”
The College had a successful Perth Royal Show in 2018, with wins in the Farm Skills Challenge,Young Sheep Producers Challenge and the Future Breeders Competition.
Several students also excelled in the individual competitions with wins in shearing, merino judging and wool handling.
Design and Technology students were once again successful at the annual Out of the Woods Woodshow with their furniture projects and the College’s 22 ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) students recently completed their WA Certificate of Education exams – the culmination of two years of hard work in the classroom.
Year 11 students Macey Hill, Cunderdin and Joel Nicholson, Moorine Rock were announced as head students for 2019, before Year 12 students were farewelled by Mrs Panizza in front of family, friends, College students and staff.
