Northam residents stopped to commemorate and celebrate the centenary of the end of World War I at a community service in Bernard Park on Sunday morning.
The day kicked off with a church service in the park from Bridgeley Church of Christ followed by a memorial service lead by the Northam RSL Sub-branch and a family fun day.
Poppies made by the Northam Men’s Shed were laid on the embankment of the Sound Shell by members of the public.
Music was provided by the Central Districts Cadet Band and the Air Force Drum Band.
Bugler Luis Lim played a 102-year-old bugle on loan from Malcom Fegan for the day to have featured at the service.
A copy of the program for the 1918 celebrations in Northam for the signing of the Armistices and a cope of the terms of the Armistice were also on show for the public.
The Northam Lions Club put on a free sausage sizzle for the community.
The Northam RSL Sub-Branch is the oldest Sub-Branch in Western Australia, receiving its charter on May 10, 1916.
