Two students from St Joseph’s High School have been presented with eBikes at a school assembly named as winners in renewable energy projects.
Sony Phung and Cody Peipi were presented with their prizes by Northam Solar Farm contractors Lendlease at a school assembly on Friday, November 2.
The students were selected as solar stand-outs by their teachers for submitting the best renewable energy projects in their class promoting residential solar power to their community, following a site visit to learn about the new solar farm.
While on the site visit the students learnt about the construction, operation, energy generation and environmental benefits of the solar farm.
eBikes are an electric bicycle with an integrated electric motor which can be used for propulsion.
The students were presented with a WY-B2 westyou eBike each by Lendlease Services operations manager Adrian Matthews.
“We were really pleased to help bring the concept of renewable energy to life for the St Joseph’s students, who got to see first hand the facility being constructed which also tied back in to their solar energy studies,” Mr Matthews said.
“Our congratulations to the winning students, we hope they enjoy their prize.”
Lendlease, along with its JV partner EMC, constructed the 10MW Northam Solar Farm for Carnegie Clean Energy.
The farm includes 33,600 solar panels that return more than 20GWh energy per year to Western Power’s grid. That’s enough energy to power 2,800 homes, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 14,000 tonnes per annum.
“It’s a significant project for Northam and we feel it’s part of our role to helped the Northam community understand the new asset in their backyard,” Mr Matthews said.
