Northam’s Link Theatre has wowed audiences at the unveiling of their new sound and lighting set up on Saturday evening.
The new systems are a result of successful grants totaling more than $53,000 from the Gaming Community Trust, Lottery West, Bendigo Bank and BankWest.
At the officially opening and demonstration of the new equipment Northam Theatre Group member and MC Jodi Ingram explained the need for the upgrade.
“The previous stage and house lighting system was extremely aged and urgently needed an upgrade,” she said.
“There was deterioration of parts, outdated quality, difficulty in accessing replacement globes, plus the excessive electricity costs associated with outdated fittings where their parts were no longer replaceable.”
Ms Ingram said along with lighting difficulties the theatre has previously not owned their own sound system, instead relying on loans from the community.
“This arrangement was not always reliable, and the time spent transporting and shifting equipment in and out of the theatre for shows was dependent on willing volunteers to do this,” she said.
“The option of hiring equipment was extraordinarily expensive and not an on-going cost that the theatre could consider as a long-term option.”
The combination of grants along with contribution from the theatre’s funds has allowed for the installation of a 60 fixture LED lighting system with unlimited colours and a roving spotlight, and the theatre’s first sound system.
Local Daniel Byfield and Rowan from Three Monkeys Audiovisual installed and designed the layout for the new systems.
During the unveiling audiences heard from Northam Theatre Group President Nicki Parker and listened to music from Ms Ingram, Neville Martin and band Run Jungle.
