Wheatbelt District Police and Northam Senior High School have teamed up to change the perception of police officers through a match of football.
The idea was pushed by Wheatbelt District Police Aboriginal engagement officer Patrick Moody who approached the school about the game between police, teachers and students.
He said he wanted the opportunity to make police more accessible to the students and spend time with the youth in a different environment.
The idea was supported by Principal Marisa Del Pin who said the initiative would benefit the wider community.
“I am so proud of Northam Senior High School and the Wheatbelt Police for working together,” she said.
“It is my goal to continue to see us work with groups in the community since the school is such a big part of Northam.
“We hope this collaboration will help students feel safe in the community and also make their interactions with police positive.”
Both male and female students joined in on the match going up against their teachers and police.
Although the older team had additional age and experience on their side, the students dominated when it came to speed, agility and athleticism.
Fellow students, staff and officers watched on the support the venture.
