The Shire of York has been gifted more than $360,000 to support the redevelopment of Avon Park, and the riverfront area in the town during a visit from Premier Mark McGowan on Wednesday, October 3.
The funding will go towards the construction of a nature play area, playground equipment, shade structures, pavilion and sound shell with a stage.
Facilities will also be available for community events to encourage participation, outdoor activities and drive extra visitation to the local area.
Mr McGowan said he was pleased to present the Lotterywest grant to the Shire of York.
"A new nature playground, pavilion and sound shell with a stage will make a big difference to the community and assist in hosting more community events,” he said.
"York is a key tourist destination in the Wheatbelt, and this new space will provide a fun, active place to visit and meet up with people in the local community."
Agricultural Region MLC Darren West said York is a deserving recipient of the funds.
"The community of York will enjoy a greater sense of place with the redevelopment of Avon Park and riverfront, made possible by the State Government through this Lotterywest grant,” he said.
"I applaud the Shire of York for their recognition of the community's changing demographic and needs, and engaging with them to create a fantastic new space that is inclusive for everyone."
