Ahead of the start of the 2018/19 floorball season more than 100 athletes took to the Northam Recreation Centre on Saturday, October 6 for the Northam Open.
The event is a day long pre-tournament before the commencement of the season next week.
Floorball WA representative Jonathon Veron who has played for Australia at an international level said the day is used as a way to kick start the new season.
“There’s a few teams that play from Northam in our competition so everyone comes down here and we have a carnival,” he said.
“There’s two divisions; a division which is mainly men’s teams but includes one women’s national team this year and then we have a mixed team which has two pools.
“Overall we have about 12 teams.
“Its a fun tournament with two thirteen-minute halves and each team gets between five and six games in a day.”
Stacey Sergeant whose twin sons play floorball in Northam said it is a nice change to have an event in Northam.
“It is nice to have everyone in our neck of the woods and for them to understand the amount of travel involved in playing the sport,” she said.
“For once I don’t have to drive down to Perth.”
