The Northam Highland Dancers have had a very successful year so far.
At the Western Australian State Championships in April Shia Eeles won the Beginners section with Grace Brayshaw sharing first place in the Primary section.
At the end of July, Northam girls and their parents travelled to the annual International Championships in Sydney and joined forces with former Northam dancers who travelled six hours to attend the event.
We were all very excited to see the Fieldhouse family and Team Joy become seven students.
The International Gathering is a fantastic two day event and our lassies and laddie danced their wee feet off and were rewarded well – our grand tally 53 medals and 11 trophies.
Congratulations to all the dancers and especially Lily Parker and Charlotte Fieldhouse who won their sections, to Shia Eeles, Ella Eeles and Jordan Fieldhouse runners up in their sections and Charly Stephen and Sophie Fieldhouse on their placings.
I was immensely proud to receive another two Teachers Award Medals.
Thank you all for your dedication and hardwork, pointed toes and smiles.
I would like to thank the Northam Community for all the support given to Highland Dancing and special thanks to the Commonwealth Bank, Northam for their sponsorship.
The children have to practice to be eligible for selection and with your support – and their parents – we are able to travel.
The girls get to perform with top dancers and also be inspired by girls who are Champions.
It is not about the winning.
This is a lifetime experience and they pick up many attributes on the journey.
Wishing all the girls good luck for the Armadale Competitions.
This is an annual event held in Minnawarra Park Armadale Sunday 9 September – all things Scottish – so come along join in the fun run, watch some dancing, enjoy Scottish fare.
Joy Smith is the Principal Teacher at Northam Highland Dancers.
