A large field of 50 players were out on the Northam Golf course last Friday to contest the inaugural RAC Day for Northam, sponsored by RAC travel.
The field consisted of both local players as well as guests from surrounding towns, some travelling as far away as Mukinbudin and Perth.
At the end of the day the home ground obviously came into play as Northam’s Peter Bray and Tyler Morrell carded a score of 71 points to win...
The format for the day was a combined stableford event, to win the day the golfing pair must both have a strong score. The course again was in pristine condition, the lush fairways and tight greens would be a test for visiting players on their approach shots, locals perhaps having the home ground advantage.
At the end of the day the home ground obviously came into play as Northam’s Peter Bray and Tyler Morrell carded a score of 71 points to win the day from another local pair of Mike Spadaccini and Brian Gogan, also with 71 points, but relegated to second on a countback.
Best ladies pair were Alison Rowland and Sally Naughton with 69 points. Best individual score for the men was Clayton Smith with 39 points, beating Don Bates on a countback. Best individual ladies score was Vera Sheen with 33 points.
