Member for the Agriculture Region Darren West has rejected allegations that he provided “false and misleading" information to Education Minister Sue Ellery when she answered questions about Moora Residential College.
Mr West has been referred to the Legislative Council Procedures and Privileges Committee by Legislative Council President Kate Doust, regarding comments allegedly made at a local government function in Jurien Bay.
In June, Shadow Regions Minister Jim Chown asked Ms Doust to refer Mr West, arguing the Wheatbelt MP had misled Ms Ellery over allegations he had promised Moora shire councillors to engage an independent assessor to assess the repairs required to keep the college open and gave an undertaking to source $500,000 if that was all it took.
Ms Ellery told parliament that Mr West "did not say what they claimed he said".
Mr Chown tabled two statutory declarations from Moora councillors saying that Mr West had given those instructions.
“I will fully cooperate with the Committee during the inquiry,” Mr West said.
“I reject these allegations and look forward to the opportunity to clear my name.”
