Artists are reminded that entries close on Friday 24 August for Avon Valley Arts Society’s annual art event – The 2018 Northam Art Prize.
You may email you entries to avas1@wn.com.au, post to PO Box 303 Northam 6401 or deliver them, with your entry fees, to the Northam Visitors Centre.
This year is special for the society as we will be moving back into one of our past homes, the Old Girls School on Wellington Street.
The move will take place later this year.
The opening of the Northam Art Prize will be held on Friday 31 August from 6.30pm at the Lesser Town Hall.
Presentations of the awards will commence around 7pm and light refreshments will be served.
We ask a small cover charge of $5 per person to help with costs.
The exhibition will then run from Saturday 1 September through to Sunday 9 September and will be open from 10am to 3pm each day.
This year’s prize pool is $6500 coming primarily from local business sponsorship.
The major prize of $2500 is sponsored by the Shire of Northam however, unlike previous years, this prize will be non-acquisitive.
2018 will see the return of a Youth Art Award for budding artists aged from 12 to 18 who attend school here in the Shire of Northam.
The Youth Award is for 2D works no more than 50cm x 50cm.
There is no set theme but works must be either a painting, a drawing or a digital image (ie photograph) and they must have hanging devices attached.
The major prize for the Youth Award is $250 which has been sponsored this year by Misty Ridge Plant Farm.
This year also sees Avon Valley Arts Society presenting the artworks on our brand new display panels which have been designed and constructed locally.
We have 10 panels so far and hope to have another 10 panels made for us in the near future.
A portion of the funding for these panels has come from local businesses who were invited to purchase a plaque with their logo and/or business name which will then be displayed on a panel in recognition of their contribution.
Each panel piece is 2.4m in length x 1.2m wide and will be covered in black hessian for display and can be arranged in a variety of configurations to suit the needs of each exhibition as required.
If any local businesses, or individuals have an interest in participating in this on-going project, the cost to purchase one display plaque is $300.
The plaques are approx. 45cm in length x 12cm wide and made of study plastic laminate.
If you’d like more information regarding purchasing a plaque, please contact Jenelle Morgan (AVAS Sec) on 0438 714 979.
