Federals took on Cunderdin on Saturday in round 16 of the Avon Football Association.
What a day to play, they say it is a winter sport and by the state of the oval at Henry Street, Northam, the only thing missing during the two matches against the Cunderdin Magpies was more rain as both league and reserves sides battled it out on the very wet and muddy surface.
The reserves, with a win, would cement top spot on the ladder for 2018 and they did not disappoint their loyal supporters unfortunately for Cunderdin.
Federals, after a slow start in the first quarter, showed them no mercy scoring goal after goal with relevant ease over the remaining three terms to run out very comfortable winners by 121 points, Federals 18-20 to Cunderdin 1-1.
The league side unfortunately was deducted four points on a technicality which moved them to third position on the league ladder.
“Smith’s 200 games is an outstanding effort achieved by his loyalty and dedication”
With little chance of finishing in the top two and safe in the top four coach Alistair Smith moved players around during the game searching for the right combination as they head towards a showdown with the Beverley Redbacks in the first semi final.
Although Cunderdin tried hard all day they were no match for the home team as Federals went on to win comfortably by 132 points, 20-19 to 1-1.
The highlight of the day was witnessing Glenn Smith run through the banner playing his 200th game for the club, it was an outstanding effort achieved through loyalty and dedication over an extended period of time.
Also on the day there was an afternoon tea and drinks to acknowledge club sponsors and life members to thank them for their valuable time and support throughout the year.
The netball girls put up a great effort against top of the table Cunderdin Magpies but unfortunately they were defeated by 16 goals.
