Peter Bray demolished Saturday's field of golfers with a nett 73 to take home the trophy
After surviving Dry July, last Saturday’s golfing event at the Northam Country Club golf course was the August monthly mug, which was an opportunity for someone to rehydrate before the end of the season.
The trophy for August was sponsored by Avon 4X4, which a lot of players can relate to as bush bashing and going into harsh territory hardly ventured is a regular occurrence for many of the golfers.
Driving the ball like a demon and putting with precision, Peter Bray was not going to give up a chance of free chardonnay for a month, demolishing the field with a nett 73 to take home the trophy.
Runner-up was the ever-consistent Cameron Stewart who put together another stellar round of golf with a score of nett 75.
Elders insurance novelties winners were - No 1 best second shot Steve Blake; No 6, nearest the pin, Steve Dinka; No 14, nearest the pin, Terry Lawler (money hole); No 16, longest putt, Ollie Griffith.
The club would also like to send its best wishes to the 17 players from Northam competing in the West Australian State Sand green competition to be held from Thursday to Sunday on the Jurien Bay course.
Next week’s fixtures include a stableford competition on Saturday, August 11 with the AVLGA Foursomes to be played on Friday, August 10.
It is also time to get busy and get organised for the RAC Golf Day on Friday, August 24, which will be a mixed aggregate pairs competition.
Reminder: There will be an early tee off on Saturday, August 25 as the presentation dinner will be held that evening.
