The Bilya Koort Boodja Centre for Nyoongar Culture and Environmental Knowledge will officially be opened in Northam on Saturday, 11 August.
The Shire of Northam’s executive manager community services Ross Rayson made the announcement at a council forum meeting on Wednesday 11 June, saying the date would be pushed back ‘for a few weeks due to issues with lighting’.
The opening date was originally planed to coincide with NAIDOC week.
Chief Executive Officer Jason Whiteaker said Bilya Koort Boodja will be a cornerstone attraction for the region and a must see for people travelling into the area.
“It was our intention to officially open the Centre in July however with the interactive experiences of the Centre being a major feature, a decision was made to postpone the opening to ensure that all technical components were correctly installed and operational so that the quality of the Centre was not compromised.”
