With the Northam golf course in fantastic condition, what better time to run a full weekend of fixtures.
Saturday was the Riverside Hotel trophy a four-ball-best-ball competition, rewarding the best scoring pair with great trophies.
Going together like gin and tonic or brandy and dry, the pairing of Ray Wiktorski and Kevin Smith weren’t on the rocks, rather playing top shelf golf.
Both contributing evenly to the overall score of 69 points Wiktorski and Smith were too good for the rest of the field and took out the winners trophy.
Not quite at full strength the “Shandy” team of Gary Balt and Grant Scollay had a diluted total of 67 points to accept the runners-up trophy.
Sunday’s event was the Monthly Mug event for July, a stroke event sponsored by Elders Real Estate.
For most of the field the chance of winning the trophy was going going gone as the serious bidders fell away after the first few holes.
Max Hubble stuck with the real estate motto of location, location and location with his drives down the middle of the fairways and chips close to the pin.
Hubble had a quiet first nine holes with a birdie on 6 being the only highlight but then on the back nine Hubble made a serious bid for the prize, paring holes 9, 10, 12 and 18 and scoring another birdie on 14.
Max is used to scoring “Hubble Doubles”; this week it was birdies, a far better outcome than the mooses a few weeks ago.
Hubble’s score of 90 off-the-stick, nett 69 was too good for the rest of the field taking out July’s Monthly Mug.
Roger Podmore was runner-up with a nett score of 72.
