Izzy, the Smart Steps road safety mascot for SDERA dropped in to greet the students at Avonvale Primary School and reminded them to always be aware of their road safety.
Messages discussed included to always wear a helmet, shoes and protective clothing when riding a bicycle or scooter, stay on the footpath if they don't know the road rules and to always be aware of driveways and cars.
Yellow Ribbon National Road Safety Week began five years ago as an initiative of Safer Australian Road and Highways (SARAH) President Peter Frazer, who lost his daughter in a road crash in New South Wales in 2012.
One of the key messages this year was 'Drive so others survive' with a focus on 'Protecting every life'.
Drivers were being reminded to consider how pedestrians including children and young people are at risk within the traffic environment.
But as we know road safety is every road users responsibility.
