Last Saturday’s event was the first round of the club championships, a stroke event sponsored by Mauri ANZ.
While a fairytale wedding was being held half way around the world in England, another fairytale was being written on the golf course in Northam.
Peter “Pan” Richards who used to play his golf far away from the fairways in Neverland, and who was cursed by his nemesis “the Hook” has rewritten the past.
With the aid of his wife and golf mentor Wendy, Richards has had a fairy tale ride in 2018.
Armed with a bag full of enchanted woods and magic sticks, Richards has found the formula for consistency and has produced another outstanding round of golf to win his second event in a week.
Richards carded a round of 92 off-the-stick, with a nett 65.
Another player who you could write a book about his golfing exploits, Terry Lawler also had a good day out with a gross score of 94 and nett 67 to take the runners-up trophy.
The Club Championships are run over four events this year, with the best three scores counting towards the final standings.
Currently no surprise that Dan Negus is topping the leaderboard with 70, followed by Kevin Smith 84 and third Mike Spadaccini on 83.
In B-grade Gary Balt with 86 is followed by Cam Stewart with 87.
Then in C-grade Peter “Pan” Richards is on 92 and second is Terry Lawler 94.
Gross winner on Saturday was Daniel Negus with a score of 70.
Elders Insurance Novelties went to the following players: No. 14 Nearest the pin Daniel Negus; No. 4 Long chip or putt Mike Spadaccini.
Congratulations to club legend Ron Pitts who again played to his age with a score of 88, however his birthday is next week which will allow him to have an extra stroke next weekend.
Next week’s event is one of our major events the Springfield Cup with round one being on Saturday and round two on Sunday.
Can Richo win three events in a row?
It would be unprecedented and unbelievable, but mainly unbearable.
