Senator for WA Peter Georgiou has traveled to Moora to show his support for campaigners, protesting to closure to the Moora Residential College.
The One Nation Senator is appealing for national recognition in regard to the closure.
“After touring the Wheatbelt and the Great Southern this week for ANZAC Day commemorations, one thing is clear, that the level of investment from State and Federal government needs to be boosted immediately,” Senator Georgiou said in a statement in late April.
“The tyranny of distance and the remoteness for many of WA’s rural and regional towns is so vast, there is an obvious disconnect between Canberra and the bush and it’s clearly evident that today’s announcement is only there to reengage voter sentiment in areas where the Liberal vote is waning.
“Today I have written to the Minister for Regional Development John McVeigh, asking for a clear outline of the funding and incentives measures that are in the pipeline ahead of the Budget to help investment and job creation for regional WA.”
When asked if all he was going to do was stand next to a road sign, Senator Georgiou told campaigners to “watch this space”.
Senator Georgiou took a tour of the facilities along side the Moora Shire President and a representative from the P&C.
He said he will be lobbying at a Federal level to try and supply funds to keep the College open.
