Last Saturday over 25 players were out in hot conditions to contest the Spud’s Carpentry stableford. Mike ‘Spud’ Spadaccini always draws a crowd; Greg Purslowe and Anthony Wallace both came out of retirement to play and Peter ‘Richo’ Richards cut short playing the circuit to join in. Richards’ season turned around once finding he needed to have a high score in stableford and a low score in stroke, not vice versa. Despite recent performance being on the up, Richo’s day started poorly, having more bogeys than a Casablanca convention. However his luck changed and six pars and a birdie offset the bogeys to post a credible score of 43 to win. Geoff Hall also played strongly returning 40 which would normally be a winning score, however was relegated to runner-up.
