Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is fast approaching and the fundraiser to help fight cancer has been apart of the Northam community for more than two-decades.
Hosted on Thursday 24 May from 10am to 11.30am, the morning tea has transformed since its inception.
Purslowe Tinetti Funerals have been hosting the fundraiser for the Cancer Council for 22 years.
Dianne Tinetti said at first the morning tea was just that, a morning tea held at their business.
As the even grew locals expressed their desire to attend the event but often couldn’t as they were working themselves.
From this came the ordering of treats that could be delivered or collected for a donation.
This meant that no one would miss out on sharing a cup of tea for the cause.
The fundraising doesn’t stop there.
A wine and cheese night with a silent auction follows the morning tea from 5.30pm.
Donations are collected from businesses and auctioned off with funds going to the Cancer Council of WA.
Dianne Tinetti said nearly everyone she knows has been touched by cancer in one way or another, and she is no exception.
“My first experience of a tragic loss to cancer was losing my Aunty; my mothers sister, to breast cancer,” Mrs Tinetti said.
“She was in her early 40’s and I would of been primary school age.
“Then in my 20’s my Mum, at the age of 55, died of breast cancer.
“Since then I have lost cousins, close friends and family of friends to that terrible disease cancer.”
But Mrs Tinetti said there is some hope.
“I see such a better survival rate in family and fiends now due to the research,” she said.
“My sister is a survivor of Breast Cancer, beside some close friends.
“I’ve never told my story before as I believe everyone has one to tell and I have know of many more tragic than mine.”
The event has become a family affair for the Tinetti’s with Dianne roping in her grandchildren to pose in what has now become the iconic Biggest Morning Tea pose, sitting in a giant tea cup.
This year Dianne has had the help of grandson Hendrix.
He is the fifth grandchild tobe photographed in the big tea cup advertising the annual cancer fundraiser.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser to help fight cancer will be held at Purslow Tinetti Dunerals from 10am on Thursday 24 May.
