At 3:10pm on Wednesday 9 May 2018, police officers were on patrol on Great Eastern Highway when they detected a blue Holden Utility being driven in excess of 140km/hr in the 110km/hr speed zone.
Police made a u-turn and attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver failed to stop and continued driving at high speed, turning off onto Chedaring Road where the vehicle disappeared from sight.
The officers drove along Chedaring Road and located the same vehicle, which had crashed.
No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
The driver of the Holden Utility, who is believed to be a 31 year old man, was given emergency first aid by the attending police officers and St John Ambulance personnel, however he become unresponsive and was unable to be revived.

Police Media have said the car involved in the incident is a ute.
The Shire of Northam is assisting with road closures.
Major Crash Investigators are attending the scene.
The crash has been classed as serious.

The person trapped inside the vehicle has now been freed.
The RAC rescue helicopter is still on its way to the scene.
DFES said there have been reports of fuel leaking out onto the road.

Volunteer fire crews and an emergency helicopter are responding to a car crash at the intersection of Great Eastern Highway and Chedaring Road in Wundowie.
The Department of Fire and Emergency services said crews from the Mundaring and Wundowie Volunteer Fire and Rescue are on the scene.
They said there are reports of a vehicle on its roof with an occupant trapped.
Crews are working to free the person.
A helicopter is on the way to the scene to respond to the crash.
