After more than 40 years Eric and Laura Fox are saying farewell their annual Easter Sunday sunrise service on their property overlooking Northam.
The 60 hectare property has been home to the yearly services since the 1970’s which has seen members from a variety of churches around Northam travel to the hill to share in a service followed by hot cross buns.
Northam Uniting Church member Ann Barnes said the services were always full of happy memories and mutual respect sharing the experience each year.
The hope is that another church congregation will “resurrect” the Easter Sunday sunrise service as for next year.
An afternoon tea was held at the Northam Uniting Church on Thursday March 15 to thank Eric and Laura for their hospitality and share memories of the cold mornings on the hill.
The afternoon was complete with hot cross buns, which many remember as the trademark to the sunrise services.
At the height of the sunrise services Eric said they had up to 120 people coming to the family property each year.
Eric and Laura were presented with flowers and a card from those who attended the afternoon tea and speeches were given from members of St Joseph’s Church, Northam Uniting Church and Bridgeley Church of Christ.
Memories shared included camping out in sleeping bags, kids running along the pipeline on the property to be the first to get back to the house for hot cross buns, and making friendships that have been lifelong.
