As part of Youth Week WA 2018, a new initiative known as the Toodyay Youth Forum has been launched and will take place Wednesday 18 April at the Toodyay Showgrounds Youth Hall.
The Forum has been created with an open invitation to the young people from our community to give their voice to the issues affecting them. There will be two sessions with 12 – 17 years from 2 – 4pm and 18 – 25 years from 5.30 – 7.30pm, noting it is a parent-free zone.
Community Development Administration Officer, Ms Maddie Ross, said the focus of the Forum was to find out what the youth of Toodyay want and how the community can go about achieving it.
“We aim to create a fun and interactive setting that will stimulate creative ideas. There will be free food, music, WiFi and everyone who pre-registers will go into a draw to win a prize,” Ms Ross said.
“We have received a lot of support from other local organisations such as the Toodyay Community Bank and the Toodyay Community Resource Centre. I think all partners recognise the importance of supporting and encouraging youth and their “out of the box” solutions.,” said Ms Ross.
The Youth Forum has received financial support from the Community Resource Centre, the Shire of Toodyay and the Toodyay Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank.
“I think most community members will agree that engaging our young community members will benefit the entire community,” said Toodyay Community Bank Branch Manager, Kirsten Barrack.
“We would also be very keen to see the results as there may be a project we could fund or collaborate on with other key community groups.”
The Shire of Toodyay has engaged Lenni Duffield Consulting along with YACWA ambassadors to facilitate the forum.
Registration forms can be found online or at the Visitors Centre, Shire of Toodyay office, the Toodyay Library, Toodyay Community Resource Centre and the Toodyay Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank.
